Sharon Brenner, Ph.D.
Dr. Brenner is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents and adults. Her practice incorporates elements of attachment and family systems theories, along with cognitive behavioral therapy and emotion-focused therapy techniques. Dr. Brenner works with individuals, families, parents and couples. At the start of therapy general outpatient clients receive a thorough intake that may last from one to three sessions, and Dr. Brenner works with clients to develop a flexible treatment plan based on the client’s identified goals. She provides evidence-based therapeutic strategies in an accepting and positive environment to build on client strengths to facilitate change and growth.
Dr. Brenner graduated from Duke University, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington in Seattle. She completed her internship and postdoctoral training at Duke University School of Medicine and received additional postdoctoral training at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) in Richmond. Since obtaining her degree, Dr. Brenner has pursued training in attachment-based evaluation and therapy and is a Certified Circle of Security® Therapist.
